Radio 47 Frequencies in Kenya

Radio 47 Frequencies in Kenya

Launched in March 2023, Radio 47 is merely a year old in the Kenyan media scene, but contrary to general perceptions that radio broadcasting is an ‘ancient’ means of information dissemination topped by social media, generally the internet, and other forms of media, it has grown to be one of the most popular radio stations in Kenya.

Three months after going live on air, listener-supported Radio 47 had already scooped a Bronze at the sixth edition of Kuza Broadcasting Awards by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to recognize and fete excellence in broadcasting after coming third in the favorite radio station category.

Its sister station, however, visual, TV47, won in the commercial FTA (Free to Air) TV category at that awards ceremony, whose winners were based on consumer feedback as voting was open to the public. TV47, together with Radio 47, is owned by Cape Media Limited.

Where to Study Petroleum and Mining Courses in Kenya

Where to Study Petroleum and Mining Courses in Kenya

In Kenya today and in the future, petroleum and mining courses will be among the most in-demand educational qualifications, and its graduates will be most sought after to work in various industries and government institutions. I strongly believe so.

Why? Just recently, Kenya found coltan, a rare mineral used in the manufacture of all modern technological devices like phones and laptops, in its six counties Embu, with the largest deposits, Mwingi North in Kitui, Nachola area in Samburu, Alale in West Pokot, Makutano in Turkana County and Kora Wells in Tana River County, so there is need to look for mining engineers, mining surveyors, Geophysicists, Geologists, Geotechnical Engineers and other experts in that field to help in mining this precious heat-resistant mineral, when manufactured, occurring in granitic pegmatites, a type of igneous rock.

And this is without mentioning the booming petroleum (oil and gas) exploration efforts going on in the country’s sedimentary basins in areas of Anza, Lamu, Mandera, and Tertiary Rift, without talking about Tullow Oil reopening after shutting down its oil extraction project in Turkana for two years and the numerous jobs announced in the State Department for Mining beginning 2024.

To prepare yourself for jobs in the petroleum and mining sector, you need to study a course in one of its areas because it is highly specialized and requires professionals.

Where can I study petroleum and mining in Kenya?

Mining in kenya jobs and careers

Professionals working in mines and the oil and gas industry look to discover reserves of these natural resources and extract and refine them for making quality products.

On the other hand, companies in this space build, operate, and maintain mining equipment and hire these professionals to utilize them in everyday mining activities.

In the petroleum sector, the most prominent careers are petroleum engineers, who apply the principles of geology, physics, and the engineering sciences to inspect and oversee exploration, drilling, and production, petroleum inspectors, field specialists, and others. Mostly, they are offered at the bachelor’s degree level in most Kenyan universities, and it takes five years to complete.

At the diploma and certificate level, if you didn’t meet the C+ requirement to join the university, you can study Geology and Mineral Science and other related courses covering mineral exploration, its production, supply chain, and more.

Here are top institutions undertaking research and education in fundamental and applied aspects of geoscience and georesources to prepare you for a rewarding job in the petroleum and mining sector;

Institutions for petroleum and mining in Kenya Course offering;
Kenyatta University Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Energy Technology and BSc in Petroleum Engineering
University of Nairobi BSc in Petroleum Engineering and BSc in Petroleum Geoscience
Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) Diploma in Oil and Gas Economics and Diploma in Petroleum Management (KCSE mean grade C-)
Nairobi Technical Training Institute Diploma in Petroleum Management
Finstock Evarsity College Diploma In Petroleum Management (DPLM) and Basic Certificate in Geology and Mineral Science
Eldoret Technical Training Institute Dip/Cert Petroleum Geoscience
Technical University of Kenya Master of Technology (Petroleum Chemical Technology )
Kisii University BSc in Petroleum Chemistry
Mount Kenya University Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Exploration and Production
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology BSc in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering

Police Officer Requirements in Kenya

Keeping law and order, investigating crime, and supporting crime prevention are, in part, the responsibilities of the Kenya Police, listed in the Duties, Powers, and Privileges section of The Police Act that provides the legal principles of their service.

Any police force would operate with autonomy and discretion, the Kenyan police officers not being the exception, posing a unique environment with its own challenges because they spend most of their time dealing with vulnerability issues of a variety of criminal activities and supporting victims of crime.

But when policing is a calling, such problems should not discourage you from joining the National Police Service (NPS), as when you are constantly challenged but embracing and learning new skills, you become successful.

Police officers are also prohibited from joining trade unions because, really, how can people called to disperse union gatherings and picket lines during demos have a union themselves? “It is impossible to bargain collectively with the Government.”

But that shouldn’t discourage you, either. So, if you want to join the Kenya Police and serve in the NPS, then here is how to become one;

Kenya Police recruitment process

The National Police Service offers different ways of getting into Kenya Police. You can apply directly as cadets on higher ranks, as a volunteer civilian staff, or as specialist officers or join via the traditional entry route of going through the recruitment process held once every year – this is the most common entry scheme.

Police recruitment requirements

Kenya Police Service join

During the recruitment days of the Kenya Police, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), which plays the human resource management function in the country’s policing service, seeks to recruit suitably qualified applicants to be trained as Police Constables.

These applicants must;

* Be a citizen of Kenya
* Hold a Kenya National Identity Card
* Have a high school minimum mean grade of D+ (D Plus) with a D+ (D Plus) and above in either English or Kiswahili languages in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary
Education (KCSE) examination or its equivalency diploma or degree from an examination body recognized in Kenya
* Be aged between 18 and 28 years
* Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity to maintain discipline and carry out their job effectively and with a sense of purpose
* Applicants must be in good health both physically and mentally to perform the duties of a police officer once recruited and enlisted
* Have no criminal record or pending criminal charges

Applicant’s note

When the dates for Kenya Police Recruitment come, the National Police Service Commission usually announces to the public through advertisements in at least two daily newspapers of national circulation, online media, and other channels.

The call for applications contains, alongside the recruitment dates, a list of Constituency-based Recruitment Centers where the exercise will take place, the criteria for the recruitment, the application procedure, and the closing date for application seven days after the announcement.

Before going to your nearest recruitment center as part of the police hiring process in Kenya when the day reaches, note that, first, there is a form to sign and fill, which is obtainable at any police station, including Sub County Administration Police Commanders (SUBCOM) Offices, County Commissioners Offices, and Huduma Centres.

They are also available online, downloadable from police websites, www.nationalpolice.go.ke, www.npsc.go.ke, and www.dci.go.ke.

Carry the application form to your nearest recruitment center on the day of recruitment, and with you, have original copies of your National ID, birth certificate, academic certificates and testimonials, and a Police Clearance Certificate.

Kenya Police recruitment day

From the recruitment of police officers in 2024 onwards, after police reform taskforce recommendations, the new age limit to join the police service might be lifted from 18 to 24 years but reserved for minority groups, and the minimum KCSE grade from D Plus to C Minus, underrepresented groups or people from marginal areas excluded also.

How long is police training in Kenya?

After meeting all the age and academic qualification requirements to start your application to the National Police Service and passing security and background checks and health and fitness tests on the recruitment day to successfully become a police recruit, to be enlisted as a full police officer, and given a rank, you must undergo rigorous training program at Kenya Police Colleges which lasts nine months. However, there are considerations to raise it to one year or twelve months.

How to Register for TSC Teachers Number in 2024

How to Register for TSC Teachers Number in 2024

If you are a new teacher, it is safe to know that in accordance with Article 237 of the Kenyan Constitution, it is illegal to teach in Kenya without registering as a teacher by getting a Teachers Service Commission TSC number so you can avoid breaking the law.

Not until you are certified and given a TSC number by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which determines eligibility for certification and evaluates applications for certification for all teachers in Kenya, you are an unlicensed teacher and thus unapproved to teach in any classroom.

TSC is a government body that registers trained teachers and employs them to conduct teaching of students at public schools countrywide.

It also adopts rules and monitors compliance in the entire teaching profession in the country aside from developing policies and providing advocacy that responds to individual student goals and community needs.

What are the requirements to be registered as a teacher by TSC?

For new teachers to be registered and receive a TSC number for a teaching certificate granted by the Teachers Service Commission, there are necessary requirements they must meet to become certified to teach in Kenya.

Register for Teachers Service Commission TSC

However, because TSC recruits teachers for service in all public primary and secondary schools, these requirements are mostly based on their educational level.

Generally, to teach at secondary and high schools, one must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in two subjects they plan to teach.

On the other hand, new teachers must have completed teacher training and preparation programs at the diploma level to register and get a TSC number.

How do I get a TSC number as a new teacher in Kenya?

If you are sure you meet the eligibility requirements to get registered by the Teachers Service Commission and ultimately receive a TSC number, it is worth knowing how to do it:

N/B: Go first to the Teachers Service Commission County Director or Quality Assurance Officer to get your documents physical-checked for ratification before you begin this online registration process for TSC numbers in Kenya

What you’ll need;

* Scanned original educational and professional certificates
* Scanned National ID or passport
* Bank slip
* One passport-size photo
* KRA pin
* GP69 Medical Form
* Certificate of good conduct
* Entry and work permit for non-Kenyans.
* A ksh1,050 registration fee

Applying for a TSC number online

Step 1: Visit the TeachersOnline website at tsconline.tsc.go.ke

Step 2: Go to the New Registration For Kenyan Citizens and fill in the required details like name, ID number, and phone number. Here, TSC will also ask you some questions to determine the application pathway that best fits your credentials. Answer them and hit ‘Next’

Step 3: You will have opened Section B. Supply the information needed on this page whereby you will give, among them, your mailing address, e-mail address, and residency and confirm your Kenyan citizenship status

Step 4: Click Next, and from the menu, enter your education information

Step 5: Upload the certificates proving your educational qualification alongside any other qualifying professional documents

Step 6: Upload a scanned copy of your National ID and continue to the last step of the TSC self-registration for TSC numbers

Step 7: Move to answer a few moral character questions, then proceed to pay the Ksh1,050 application fee via online checkout using either Mpesa, Airtel Money, KCB Cash, Equity Cash, or E-Agent

Afterward, the Teachers Service Commission will go through your application, and if you meet the set qualifications, you will get a certificate of Registration bearing a TSC number within 30 days.

KDF Recruitment 2024: When Is Kenya Defence Forces Recruiting?

KDF Recruitment 2024: When Is Kenya Defence Forces Recruiting?

The Ministry of Defence ended the last fiscal year on a promising note for military recruiting after enlisting slightly more than 1600 General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen, and women and Defence Forces Constables in the recruitment exercise that took place between August 28 ending September 8, 2023.

This year, everyone is optimistic that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will widen the net for recruits to reach its active duty accession goals, which may stand at the same number or more, and the big question on the minds of many would-be members of Kenyan military is when the KDF recruitment will take place in 2024.

Even so, KDF rarely falls short in its recruiting goals because of factors like the high unemployment rate in the country and the eligibility of many young Kenyans to serve in the military, which often lead to high turnout on recruitment days.

When is KDF recruitment in 2024?

Every year, the KDF, Kenya Defence Forces, comprised of three main branches, Kenya Army, the Kenya Air Force, and the Kenya Navy, staff the force with recruits for military training before they can be deployed to protect and defend the people and the country against external aggression and to uphold and advance its national policies and interests.

Until now, KDF has not announced to the public the official dates for recruiting prospective troops in 2024, and thus, nobody knows when KDF recruitment 2024 will take place, and you can’t predict.

Looking at the past years, you will see that the recruiting patterns in the Kenyan military have been unpredictable. In 2019, KDF recruitment started on November 27, in February for 2020/2021, in November for the 2021/2022 recruitment drive, and in August for 2023.

What Is the Central Depository Agent (CDA)?

What Is the Central Depository Agent (CDA)?

Companies and individuals that regularly engage in securities, fungible and tradable financial instruments like stocks or shares, limited investments, bonds, debentures, and other types of exchange-traded funds in Kenya are likely to interact with CDA – Central Depository Agent.

Central Depository Agents are banks and stockbrokers who execute buy and sell orders of securities only on behalf of clients and are not proprietary traders.

If we were in the Mongoloid era, CDAs could be the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) floor brokers representing client orders manually on the trading floor. However, today, technology has brought flexibility by reducing complexity and enhancing performance even in the main markets, and they can now handle almost everything electronically.

With this expansion, CDAs can now offer their clients the ability to trade in all Kenyan securities listed on the NSE by registering them on the authorization of the Central Depository & Settlement Corporation Limited (CDSC), which was established in 1999 to reduce costs related to traditional central securities depositories that even had issuance of physical certificates and long duration transactions and provide clearing and settlement efficiencies by immobilizing securities and accessory rights in the stock market.

When CDAs register clients, it basically includes them in the Central Depository System (CDS), an enabler for everyone who wants to trade in NSE-listed securities. If you want to get a CDS account in Kenya, here are the CDAs you can talk to;
