The 2023 KCSE marking is underway, according to the latest update from KNEC – the Kenya National Examination Council, the country’s exam regulator under the Ministry of Education headed by Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
But as the teachers continue to mark this secondary school national examinations, several false reports claiming that the results are out have been published.
Sadly, they can affect the more than 900,000 candidates who sat for these exams from October through November of this year because they are waiting anxiously to know their KCSE grades, and many can be increasingly fearful as the results day approaches since it is a determiner of whether they will be embarking on new studies and attend different universities and colleges.
Further, it dictates the specific courses they will pursue at the higher learning institutions, as aside from a prerequisite of C+, the accumulated cluster points are considered. So publishing fake news about KCSE is detrimental to their mental health as it will only increase their anxiety and panic.
One such post was published on the Maseno University Comrades public Facebook group by a user identified as Abiga Lozano on December 20: “KCSE 2023 results have been released. 1,146 candidates attained a mean grade of A.” It reads in part, and here is a screenshot.
This is FALSE as KNEC and Education CS Machogu have not issued an update on the time KCSE results will come out, and KNEC has warned the public about such fake news sources.
“To get accurate information regarding KCSE examinations or any other national examinations administered by KNEC, please follow our official social media handles.”
KCSE results will not be released until the processes of marking, validation, grading, verification, and assessment of examination components to test the reliability and consistency of outcomes are complete.
But it is projected to be released after Christmas, before the beginning of 2024. (It is just a projection)
