Uasin Gishu plans to raise about Ksh2.7 billion in revenues after updating the data of business owners within the county in its digital tax collection system called Sisibo Pay.
According to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, this move will have a profound impact on the county’s ability to collect taxes for financing public expenditures for sustainable economic and social development.
He was speaking on Monday during the flagging off of 310 enumerators and 85 supervisors, part of the tax administration that targets to register and license over 80,000 businesses on Sisibo Pay.
“Apart from Uasin Gishu being a farmers’ Town, we also have business from small traders to big traders, and all of us have equal chances of doing business,” he said, calling for maximum cooperation from the business community.
On his part, David Kebenei, the County Director in charge of business licensing, pointed out that the Sisibo Pay update will address the challenges of domestic revenue mobilization by reducing tax avoidance practices since it was last updated in 2015 and a majority of the businesses were not captured in the system.
He noted that new licenses for 2024 will be issued when the exercise is complete after five days.
“We realized that as we issue single business permits, there has been unfairness in distribution, and it is not intentional but because of the lack of data,” Mr Kebenei stated.
The update of this revenue management system holds the promise of shoring up public finances as the County Government of Uasin Gishu seeks to fully digitize its tax collection initiatives.
With Sisibo Pay, the county government will know how much businesses raise as taxes every day, and to reduce avoidance, it will mark theGeographic Information System location of these businesses to minimize revenue losses.
Elgeyo Marakwet is one of the 47 constituent counties of Kenya, bordering West Pokot County to the North, Baringo County to the East, and Uasin Gishu County to the West.

3. You will be automatically redirected to the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services website. Authorize login using your eCitizen details to access the passport application portal

5. Confirm your nationality
6. Choose your preferred passport type as Ordinary and put ‘First Time Passport’ to proceed with the online application

RVTTI fee structure and cost of attendance 2024
The latest billing information from the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) shows that the school charges a standard fee of Ksh67,189 for all courses. This represents the total tuition cost plus government aid in HELB scholarships for newly admitted students.
It is, however, not included with the Ksh1,000 admission fee, Ksh500 for students’ ID cards, and the same amount for social activities, specifically RVTTI Students Union.

MP Didmus Barasa has bought a new Robinson R66 civil helicopter worth roughly Ksh120 million, a commercial invoice posted online shows, but Kenyans are not happy.
The Kimilili Member of Parliament purchased this Robinson R66 Turbine Helicopter from JAG Helicopters Sdn Bhd, an exclusive Robinson Helicopter distributor in Malaysia and Indonesia.
It was shipped from Subang in West Java, Indonesia, to Nairobi at Wilson Airport. In detail, the commercial invoice shows that Didmus Barasa parted with $760,000, an equivalent of Ksh121,220,000 in the current exchange rate.
Kenyans are not pleased – Not long ago, over the Christmas holiday, Kenyan President William Ruto and the leader of the Kenya Kwanza side, of which MP Didmus is part, said that they inherited empty coffers after his predecessor former president Uhuru Kenyatta ate all the money with his accomplices. He likened it to a granary, saying that even the rats had abandoned it.
He pointed out that that was the reason for high taxes and the ailing economy, but the government is doing everything possible to cool off the pressure.
However, Kenyans are dissatisfied and accuse their leaders of what they see as a waste of funds if after all, it is true that the coffers were empty. Recently, MPs, Cabinet Secretaries, and other government leaders have been seen wearing very expensive watches that cost millions.
