Uasin Gishu Expects to Raise Ksh2.7 Billion After Tax Collection System Update

Uasin Gishu plans to raise about Ksh2.7 billion in revenues after updating the data of business owners within the county in its digital tax collection system called Sisibo Pay.

Uasin Gishu plans to raise about Ksh2.7 billion in revenues after updating the data of business owners within the county in its digital tax collection system called Sisibo Pay.

According to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, this move will have a profound impact on the county’s ability to collect taxes for financing public expenditures for sustainable economic and social development.

He was speaking on Monday during the flagging off of 310 enumerators and 85 supervisors, part of the tax administration that targets to register and license over 80,000 businesses on Sisibo Pay.

“Apart from Uasin Gishu being a farmers’ Town, we also have business from small traders to big traders, and all of us have equal chances of doing business,” he said, calling for maximum cooperation from the business community.

On his part, David Kebenei, the County Director in charge of business licensing, pointed out that the Sisibo Pay update will address the challenges of domestic revenue mobilization by reducing tax avoidance practices since it was last updated in 2015 and a majority of the businesses were not captured in the system.

He noted that new licenses for 2024 will be issued when the exercise is complete after five days.

“We realized that as we issue single business permits, there has been unfairness in distribution, and it is not intentional but because of the lack of data,” Mr Kebenei stated.

The update of this revenue management system holds the promise of shoring up public finances as the County Government of Uasin Gishu seeks to fully digitize its tax collection initiatives.

With Sisibo Pay, the county government will know how much businesses raise as taxes every day, and to reduce avoidance, it will mark the Geographic Information System location of these businesses to minimize revenue losses.

MP Didmus Barasa Has Bought Ksh120 Million Helicopter and Kenyans Are Fuming. The Coffers Are Empty!

Didmus barasa helicopter price

MP Didmus Barasa has bought a new Robinson R66 civil helicopter worth roughly Ksh120 million, a commercial invoice posted online shows, but Kenyans are not happy.

Didmus Barasa helicopter invoice

The Kimilili Member of Parliament purchased this Robinson R66 Turbine Helicopter from JAG Helicopters Sdn Bhd, an exclusive Robinson Helicopter distributor in Malaysia and Indonesia.

MP Didmus Barasa Has Bought Ksh120 Million Helicopter and Kenyans Are Fuming. The Coffers Are Empty!

It was shipped from Subang in West Java, Indonesia, to Nairobi at Wilson Airport. In detail, the commercial invoice shows that Didmus Barasa parted with $760,000, an equivalent of Ksh121,220,000 in the current exchange rate.

Kenyans are not pleased – Not long ago, over the Christmas holiday, Kenyan President William Ruto and the leader of the Kenya Kwanza side, of which MP Didmus is part, said that they inherited empty coffers after his predecessor former president Uhuru Kenyatta ate all the money with his accomplices. He likened it to a granary, saying that even the rats had abandoned it.

He pointed out that that was the reason for high taxes and the ailing economy, but the government is doing everything possible to cool off the pressure.

However, Kenyans are dissatisfied and accuse their leaders of what they see as a waste of funds if after all, it is true that the coffers were empty. Recently, MPs, Cabinet Secretaries, and other government leaders have been seen wearing very expensive watches that cost millions.

Merely two weeks ago, a CS was accused of allegedly embezzling ministry funds and engaging in corrupt practices after unveiling a football tournament and looks to splash nearly Ksh10 million in awards only.

Check out what Kenyans were saying about Didmus Barasa’s case and his Robinson R66 helicopter:

David Mbwana: “Let the man eat. His constituents knew what they were getting into. Happy flying Didmus.”

Otenyo Alex: “In your reporting, learn to separate Kenya as a country and personal net worth. We don’t expect leaders to use their own pocket money to assist Kenya in its struggle.”

Master Bakari: “Amidst economic challenges in Kenya, the acquisition of a Robinson R66 helicopter by MP Didmus Barasa, with a strategic HS code, raises concerns about fair taxation and representation. Prioritizing constituents’ needs should be the focus.”

Magen David: “Kimilili people, we are at peace with our MP. He had done exceptionally well so far. In fact, our strong next governor candidate.”

Speakg254: “It is sad that I believed that “we” were fighting out dynasties, not knowing that the sons and daughters of the peasants wanted to become dynasties by the end of these five years.”

Where to buy cheap laptops in kenya

Many laptop shops wait until Black Friday, after Christmas, or until the end of the year to give mouth-watering promotion sales and deals, but not this one – ECB Technologies.

ECB is one computer shop that consistently offers low prices throughout the year across its stock of cutting-edge technology and it is not surprising to find laptops under 30k, Ksh20,000, negotiations to 10K… lol.

Their range extends from desktop PCs, laptops, monitors, keyboards, and computing accessories to printers, projectors and mobile phones.

If you are looking for the cheapest laptops for sale in Kenya that meet your needs at desired prices, you can visit their physical shop in Iconic Business Plaza, 3rd Floor, Room T12, along Moi Avenue in Nairobi.

Interestingly, for shoppers, this laptop shop takes online orders even via their social media channels and can get them on Twitter at @ECB001, where you can see their products that feature products from plenty of budget-friendly brands like Lenovo, HP, and Dell, among many others.

3. Kilimall

Everyone knows that Kilimall reigns supreme when it comes to online shopping at excellent prices, but we’ll be first to admit the issues in its delivery system.

If you are looking for a new laptop or a decent refurbished piece, you may find it in their online shop, but you will wait for days before receiving it at your doorstep or picking it up at the nearest Kilishop if you are outside Nairobi.

Orders fulfilled by Kilishop take three to nine days to be completed, 5-10 days for local dispatcher orders, and worse, up to 50 days when your ordered laptop is awaiting shipment.

Kilimall’s major computer and laptop brands are HP, Lenovo, and Dell. They also deal in their accessories and networking products like routers and modems.

Random laptop buying tip: Choose to buy a laptop or computer that runs on an operating system you are familiar with, between MacOS and Windows. For example, if you already have an iPhone, a MacBook will let you send texts with iMessage, and you can make FaceTime video calls. When you want to send photos taken from your camera or downloaded images on your files, it lets you access your iCloud photos. These two operating systems have never been the same. Also, check the repair shop near you; can they fix a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max?
