In December 2003, a coaching fleet called Easy Coach was built up to undertake public transport activities: situated in Nairobi, where its main office sits to date, it only plied one route then, Nairobi to Kisumu, before adding Kakamega when demand for its eco-efficient bus services rose.
This year, Easy Coach turns 20, and from its humble beginnings, starting with only 11 buses and 50 workers, it has grown to be one of the most iconic Kenyan transport companies, giving direct employment to nearly a thousand people.
“We have almost 900 people working for us,” Easy Coach owner Azym Dossa was quoted when he talked to BD Africa in August 2023.
His business became successful and expanded rapidly. Today, this long-distance coach serves 40 top destinations in Kenya, and passengers prefer it because of the continuous improvements it makes to its fleet, pocket-friendly fares, and the harmonious relationship of transit operators with travelers.
Easy Coach’s position is that it is open to innovation and is keen to embrace technologies that complement its vast transport network for convenience. Therefore, passengers can book its buses online and pay their fares directly using Mpesa;
