Kenya may be facing an acute police officer shortage after the National Police Service (NPS) failed to recruit new officers last year in 2023 in what the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki said was due to lateness.

So the question is, when is the police recruitment in 2024? Well, the National Police Service of Kenya has not yet communicated the actual date even after recently flagging a social media post that claimed that the police recruitment was to be last month in January.
“We wish to inform the public to disregard the fake news circulating on social media platforms regarding the purported recruitment into the National Police Service in January 2024,” NPS stated in an official statement. Hence, the specific date and time remain unknown.
When it happens, the NPS will no longer recruit people who are above 18 years old but 21 in line with the new recommendations set out by the task force on police reforms led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, which also raised the minimum KCSE grade to join Kenya Police from D+ to C-.

How much does Eldoret Polytechnic cost per year?

Surplus power output will bring down Kenya’s electricity rates in the next couple of months after almost three years of steady increases that have raised them by nearly 50%.
Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), the biggest hydroelectric plant in the country, has produced more energy after the Masinga Dam, its largest hydropower facility with the most conventional hydroelectric generating capacity amongst the Seven Forks Cascade, hit one of the highest water levels in the recent past.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the state-owned utility, Masinga Dam has maintained near maximum water levels of 1,056 meters above sea level (mASL), generating a peak output of more than 471MW in the past 24 hours, which will see a drop in electricity prices, helping households struggling with the cost of living crisis.
“We are happy to report that we are receiving very good inflows from the Mount Kenya and Aberdares catchment areas, which has led to high water levels at our dams,” said KenGen CEO Peter Njenga.
“This will see Kenyans reap the full benefit of cheaper electricity.” He added.
In January, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) raised the cost per unit of electricity by 8.7% from a combination of higher fuel costs, currency depreciation, and the review of electricity tariffs.
In December 2023, Ksh100 bought 2.48 units and decreased to 1.48 units in January 2024. Today, if you pay Ksh150 to Kenya Power, you get 4.69 units of electricity.

The Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering, and Technology (PASET) conference will be opening in Nairobi in April 2024, bringing together government ministers, senior government officials, education stakeholders, and young leaders to discuss and agree on policies and initiatives that will assist in laying the foundations for industrial takeoff and in most African countries.
PASET is an industrial strategy of African governments in collaboration with the World Bank and partners like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeking to aid their quest for industrialization through education with an emphasis on applied sciences, engineering, and technology from TVET level to higher education and research.
“For African countries, there is no better time than now to accelerate their socio-economic transformation by developing skilled professionals in applied sciences, engineering, and technology (ASET) fields so that millions of youth can integrate faster into an increasingly innovative and technological workforce and address the continent’s challenges through scientific and technical research and innovation,” World Bank says.
Since its creation in 2013, the PASET program has 12 member countries, which are Rwanda, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, Benin, Somalia, Burkina Faso, and Ghana, and high-level representatives and ministers of education from these countries will be attending the meeting at Kenya’s capital this April.
The meeting, which is held under the theme: ‘Leveraging Technical, Vocational and Technical Training (TVET) in the knowledge and skills ecosystem for Africa’s Industrialization,’ is being chaired by the Government of Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, who heads the Ministry of Education.
Yesterday, he met with some PASET partners, including those from the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Labour Organisation, UNESCO, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) concerning the upcoming conference.
Machogu said Africa faces an acute shortage of manpower in critical areas that require Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and PASET has the potential to help the continent address the skills and knowledge gaps in the areas, as quoted by Kenya News Agency.
In attendance were the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, and his counterparts from the State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, and Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria from the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) among other senior officials.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is an independent ministerial department under the Ministry of Education that establishes, executes, and furthers most of the teaching policies for delivering excellent standards of education, training, and care in the basic education sector of Kenya.

New primary school teachers employed by TSC earn nearly Ksh10,000 less than their counterparts in secondary schools, whose upper earning limit is Ksh45,776/mo.

Do high school teachers get paid well?
As of 2024, the starting salaries of high school or secondary school teachers with bachelor’s degrees in education and no prior experience range from Ksh28,491 to Ksh35,614 for those with three or more years of experience.
Teachers under TSC with over six years of teaching and additional coursework or qualifications receive a monthly basic salary of more than Ksh45,000, and senior teachers and principals get over Ksh70,000 to a high of Ksh130,000 depending on experience.

In 2015, the Ministry of Health released a major report entitled The National Oral Health Survey, published as Kenya National Oral Health Policy 2022-2030. Seventeen people were killed Monday, and dozens were injured, at least 27 seriously, in a head-on crash involving a commercial passenger bus and a lorry along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway at Othoo area in Nyando, police officials and local media reported.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 AM when a Super Metro bus belonging to its Super Coach Executive Limited, which was heading to Mombasa from Kampala, Uganda, was speeding to overtake a private saloon car when it collided with the oncoming lorry according to eyewitnesses.
“We were woken up by a loud bang, and when we rushed to the scene, we found bodies strewn all over the road as well as the mangled wreckage of the lorry. Injured passengers were crying in excruciating pain,” Jamea Onyango, one of the present residents during the crash, said.
Both the two drivers of the Super Metro bus and the driver of the lorry, which was ferrying rice paddy to Ahero Town, died on the spot.
The residents were later joined by the authorities who responded to the crash, and the Nyando Sub-County Police Commander Grace Thuo, who was then present, said the injured passengers aboard the ill-fated bus and 12 bodies were transported to Ahero Sub County Hospital.
Fifteen of them who had serious injuries, two of whom were in critical condition, were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still unclear, and the identities of the victims have not been released as the police have said the incident remains under investigation. Super Metro was cooperating in the investigation, the company Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nelson Nduki said while sympathizing with the victims’ families.
“We send our condolences to the families. It is very difficult because we have never experienced this and we have followed all the regulations as per the Traffic Act. We had two drivers. The drivers who were seated in the front seats passed away,” a remorseful Nduki stated.
Adding, “It is very unfortunate that this kind of accident can happen particularly to one that is related to our company. We are saddened. We have sent our team there because there are individuals who are hospitalized.”

Yes, Vodacom Mpesa in Tanzania has transaction limits, which are enforced on money transfers and withdrawals based on tiers, and there are Tiers 1, 2, and 3, depending on where the customer has reached verifying the mandatory KYC requirements.
Tier 1 is a default upon the normal ID verification. It allows a maximum daily transfer of Tsh1,000,000, and customers can hold a balance of not more than Tsh2 million in their mobile money accounts once. Its yearly limit is Tsh30 million.
